Restaurant.com GIVEAWAY!

10 May

I love being able to feature giveaways for my readers, but I love it even more when it’s for a product that I already use and love.  Restaurant.com emailed me to ask if I would feature a giveaway for their gift certificates.

If you don’t know Restaurant.com, you are missing out on fantastic deals.  They sell gift certificates to specific restaurants that enable you to get deals like $25 worth of food for $10 or $100 value for $40!  (They also run sales regularly where you can get it for a lot less…  They just Tweeted an 80% savings for using the code word “MOM” this weekend!).  I think it’s a great way to be able to try out a restaurant you might not have ordinarily stumbled upon.  (The gift certificates also make excellent gifts to any friends you have that love food.  One of my all-time favorite gifts, personally!).

They have over 15,000 restaurants listed in the following cities:

  • Atlanta
  • Baltimore
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Cincinnati
  • Cleveland
  • Denver
  • Detroit
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • Minneapolis
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • Phoenix
  • Pittsburgh
  • Portland
  • Riverside – San Bernardino
  • San Diego
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • St. Louis
  • Tampa
  • Washington DC
They also have guides for each of their cities (you can see the NYC guide here).

Svelte Product Review and GIVEAWAY!

24 Apr

Every once in a while, I am delighted when I am contacted by brands who ask me to try their products.  I am in no way indebted to them to write a positive review (or any review for that matter) but it’s fun to try products that I ordinarily would never come across.

When I was contacted by CalNaturale about their product, Svelte , I was excited to try it.

They tout it as a gluten-free, vegan, all-natural protein shakes that give you energy.  While I am not gluten-free nor vegan, an all-natural protein shake that gives you energy sounded like a good idea.  Though I’ve had my share of protein shakes in the past, and frankly, most of them taste pretty chalky and chemically.  I thought it would be an interesting test to see if these guys had a protein shake that I’d actually drink.

I was also amused by the tag line they included in the email:

When the product arrived, I was further entertained by the messaging on the packages:

A product that is good for me AND compliments me?  Sold!

I looked over the assortment of 4 flavors and decided to crack open the spiced chai first.  I was skeptical… but I was immediately enamoured.  It tasted creamy and delicious, almost like dessert.  How could this be good for you?

So I started reading the website… “16g of organic protein from fresh organic soymilk, along with organic complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. Svelte is tested to be low-glycemic and has only 9 grams of sugar per full bottle. It’s also a good source of fiber and is dairy-free and gluten-free. Here’s to you.”

Awesome. But hold the phone… this has soymilk? I HATE soymilk!  What gives?

I cracked open the other 3 flavors and enjoyed them all just as much.  It reminded me a bit of Slim Fast, you know, if Slim Fast actually tasted GOOD.   Soymilk or no soymilk, I liked these things.

I’m not entirely positive if they would be filling enough as a meal replacement, but I drank half of one for breakfast and it held me until lunch.  I actually just ordered a case so I can test it for lunches.

My favorite flavor was definitely the chai, but I’m a chai girl, so I like it spicy.  My second favorite was probably cappuccino, but they’re all good.

(I also found out that they make organic wines! They sent me a white and a red to try and while I liked them, I’m not as excited to purchase these on my own as I am the drinks)

What’s even better is that CalNaturale has given me the opportunity to share these cool products with you!  THREE lucky winners will be able to receive gift packs, each including one of each flavor of Svelte.

How do you enter?  Simple!  Comment on this post below and answer the question “When do you need an energy boost most?”  Is it when you wake up in the morning? The 2pm slump?  The 4pm “I need to finish my day” rut?

You can also gain one additional entry for every place you post about this giveaway.  (Please link me to your blog, Facebook page, Twitter, etc. so your entry can be counted. You can always email me at sara@nycnomnom.com.)

You have until 10pm EST on Monday, May 2nd to enter.

Good luck Nommers!

A New Deal Site plus a GIVEAWAY!

5 Apr

There are about 6 bazillion new deal sites out there, all trying to capitalize on the genius spin that Groupon put on the space.  Deal sites have existed pretty much as long as the internet has been around, however, Groupon made it somewhat social by telling consumers that they all had to band together to get a deal.  And now they are valued at $25 BILLION. GENIUS!

I find it has become increasingly difficult to weed through the clutter of the deal sites, and they all have pretty much the same offering.  I wind up just going for deals that appeal to me, and I have very little “loyalty” to any one site.  I do like the feeling of getting something at a discount, however, so I am a frequent purchaser.

When Signpost reached out to me saying they were a “free social network for bargain hunters,” I immediately assumed they were like the rest.  However, after exploring the site, it turns out that they are doing something truly unique in the space.  They are allowing users to post deals in their community and enables them to “Like” deals and share their favorites.  I really like the idea that consumers can share deals in one consolidated space, and it’s cool that you can see them on a map.  Their tagline is “Local deals you actually care about” and I think that’s a great way to put it.

They have a number of food, beauty, home, and fashion related deals.  Right now, they have a few great Foodie deals in NYC that I particularly like, including 50% off Gourmet Gift Baskets, $10 for $20 towards food delivery from AllMenus.com, and $35 for $75 Worth of Kitchen & Bathroom Cleaning from NYC Clean Team. (Click on each link for more information about the deals)  You can sign up to receive deals as well! (I think I’m buying that Kitchen and Bathroom cleaning deal RIGHT NOW!)

They are also hosting an open bar tomorrow night (April 6th) in NYC, so you can RSVP here to enjoy an open bar from 6pm-7pm.  And who doesn’t like free booze?

They also offered me a SWEEPSTAKES PRIZE to give to you, my loyal readers.   To be entered for $20 worth of free delivery from AllMenus.com, just leave a comment below about your favorite thing about NYC.  (This delivery site is only available in NYC, Hoboken, and North Bergen currently, so apologies to the out-of-towners.  I’ll have something for you soon though, so don’t worry!)  To get additional entries into the sweeps, Tweet a link to this blog, Facebook about this blog, become a fan on Facebook, or tell your friends to visit NYC Nom Nom and sign up.  Just send a screenshot of your additional entries to sara@nycnomnom.com or link to them below in the comments section.

Entries will be accepted through Sunday, April 10th at 5pm EST.  I will pick an entry at random and all are eligible to enter.

GOOD LUCK and happy deal exploring!

(Full disclosure: Signpost approached me to feature their site and this sweeps on my blog.  I was in no way required to post any kind of review, positive or negative, and all opinions expressed reflect my own personal experience on the site.)
