There are still a number of places in my neighborhood that I have yet to try. One such place is Thai Select on 9th Ave between 36th and 37th Streets.
The decorations were all nice on their own, but someone with very strange taste put it together. The velvet rope behind the statue and pond was especially curious.
Another curiosity was the menu. Lots of items in the Lunch Special were whited out, so we really weren’t sure what we were getting. But even just the meal for $9 was worth it… so why not?
I thought a very cute touch was the straw paper roses that were stuck into the end of each straw.
We all marveled at it.
We were served some sort of potato soup. It was DELICIOUS!
And came with a cute fried wonton purse (that had chili on it, so I took their word that it was good).
We also tried the rock shrimp tempura that came with a vanilla chili plum sauce. Vanilla and plum sound good, but the chili left me just eating the shrimp… which was VERY tasty.
We also got some pork dumplings which were DELISH.
I chose the Pad See Ewe as my lunch special. I am always a fan, but this was especially tasty.
My coworker got a dish that I think was the Char-Grilled Moo Yang which came with sticky rice, grilled marinated pork, spicy jim-jaew sauce, and som-thumb (papaya salad). He thoroughly enjoyed.
Overall, I was REALLY impressed that this little Thai place had such great food. It’s got a few extra dishes that make the menu interesting, and they do the classics right. I’m sure I’ll be back.
